Portoferraio: The old storing rooms of the Linguella
rooms host the Archaeological Museum of Linguella since 1988.
Archaeological remains from the VIII century B.C to the V century
A.C. are preserved here in a topographic order. Some remains
from Roman wreckages which sank in front of Pomonte, Montecristo
and Chiessi stand out among the objects exposed. |

Rio nell'Elba: The Mineral Museum features more than
700 samples from the private collection of Alfredo Ricci, to
whom the Museum is dedicated. A complete sample of the "open
air mineral museum" which the island of Elba is, fascinating
and of scientific importance, Guided tours to the old iron mines
can be organised on request.
Rio Marina:The Town Hall hosts the Elban Mineral Museum,
"the Gennai Tonietti Collection", from the 60's. The miners
have collected more than 1000 samples of minerals and stones
and organised them according to the site where they were found.
During some months of the year you are able to visit some of
the strip mines that abound in quartz, pyrite and hematite.
Campo nell'Elba: The premises of a disco is now an aquarium
that features the flora and the fauna of Elba. More than 1000
examples, 180
different species, live in 34 basins and makes it the biggest
marine aquarium in Europe. The aquarium also hosts the Animal
Museum that holds 250 examples of 170 different species.
Marciana: The Archaeological Museum is located in the
Palazzo Pretorio which hosts objects from the Palaeolithic period
to the Roman era. One room is dedicated to the marine archaeology
and features Roman amphorae from the imperial Roman wreckages
that sank along the gulf of Procchio. |
