In
the very vicinity of Marina di Campo you find the Ogliera,
Giardino, and Tombe Tombe coves, quite easily
accessible through the small paths, and Fetovaia beach
which probably is the most famous one on Elba. Its celebrity
is much justified and can be explained by its beauty, the fine
white sand, the protected location and the transparency of the
sea-bed. It does become excessively busy during the summer months,
though. Continuing from Fetovaia to Cavoli you come across the
charming Piscine del Seccheto which are natural grooves
in granite rocks, perfect for sun-tan enthusiasts and often
the destination for nudists. Somewhat further on, in a small
protected gulf, Seccheto beach opens up, surrounded
by flat reefs and small pools less exposed to breakers and therefor
also more suitable for children than previously mentioned beaches.
Cavoli beach is easily accessible from the road and is another
of the famous beaches on Elba. Almost 300 meters long in a protected
location, it offers particularly transparent sea-beds. Much
more peaceful because it is less known, is the wide bay Palombaia,
characterized by dark sand and pebbles and by a sea that immediately
turns deep. You get to the bay from the fork at Mount Perone
on the road connecting Marina di Campo with Lacona. From Marina
di Campo you easily get to the homonymous long and well-equipped
beach with fine sand, as well as to the more peaceful beach
Galenzana. The pine-wood behind them completes the description
of amenities. The second beach of Marina di Campo, suitable
for those who do not appreciate too much bustle around them,
is called Fonza and opens up to a small gulf wedged in
that larger one of Marina and is reached by following the indications
for the Acquarium and the camping. From the parking at the camping
you can take on to a path that after having climbed up a hill,
leads down towards the small and protected cove, fitted into
a natural scenery. |
