Lovers
of uncontaminated nature will find a small paradise as they
reach the Lamaia beach, bordering with Portoferraio and
connected with Biodola beach by the so called "health path",
a shadowy track leading through the greenery. Not far from here,
the Porticciolo cove opens up, just as Lamaia beach surrounded
by greenery, and an excellent docking point for small boats.
Procchio beach, wide and beautiful, has worthily become
very famous thanks to the fine and clear sand and to its well
protected location. It is extraordinarily well-equipped and
is able to host any kind of guests and consequently one of the
island's busiest beaches. If you do not like crowded resorts
you should move on to the more peaceful beaches Guardiola
and Spartaia where you can relax even with your four-legged
friends that might not be accepted on the larger and busier
ones. Not far from Guardiola you will find Campo all'Aia,
, a small and protected bay that forms an excellent starting-point
for excursions at sea. Along the road that leads from Procchio
to Marciana there are indications for Paolina, beach
that has gotten its name from the homonymous rock that is located
opposite to the beach. It is covered with fine sand and always
guarantees a shadowy area thanks to the holm-oaks that frame
the cliffs behind. |

Travelling down the road that connects Marciana with Sant'Andrea
, take off at the diversion to Maciarello and you will come
on to a steep path that leads to Cala Cala beach, divided
by a small promontory from the tiny beach Caletta that can only
be reached from the sea. Maciarello, ibeach, framed with
charming caves, is also called della Fontina in virtue of the
presence of a spring with drinkable water that used to supply
the inhabitants. Continuing on the same road you will find indications
for the well-equipped and protected Sant'Andrea beach,
easily accessible and covered with fine sand. The beach is surrounded
by a barrier of stones that keeps the water-level low which
makes it suitable also for children. Just next to it, the small
but extraordinarily beautiful Cotoncello opens up for
you, where the reefs create a delightful natural pool.
Geologically identical to Cotoncello you have the Sant'Andrea
reef which can be reached by foot from the homonymous beach
and is known for its transparent sea-bed and its very rich marine
life. The beautiful contrast between the reefs and the superb
colors of the sea, necessitates at least a visit. Cala della
Cotaccia, beach can only be reached from the sea, and it
is not actually a proper beach but cliffs. Another easily accessible
and beautiful cove between the rocks is La Guardia,
not far from Patresi, , also embellished with a very
limpid sea-bed and from which you on clear days can see the
outline of Corsica. Lovers of uncontaminated nature will especially
appreciate the dark and stony rocks at Le Buche beach,
accessible from Colle d'Orano and from where you easily get
to Mortigliano beach, morphologically very similar, beautiful
and isolated and made even more spectacular by the rocks that
tower behind it. Caletta di Punta Nera and Campo Lo
Feno beach are both a niche of peace, only accessible from
the sea or with great effort from land., while beach a short
walk from the main-street is sufficient to enjoy the incredible
colors of the sea in front of Chiessi beach. Mount Capanne
dominates Pomonte beach which can be reached from the
street that runs along the residence with the same name, embellished
with exceptionally transparent water. The beaches at Pomonte
wind just below the road and the most pleasant point is probably
the one known as Punta dell'Ogliera, on the border of the commune
Campo nell'Elba.
